Based on the results of the landslide public safety site review that Mike Dewey, the Geotechnical Specialist for the Oregon Department of Forestry performed, I am assigning impact ratings to the following structures and roads. 24612 Lower Smith River Rd FRA: Serious. When combined with Exposure Category A, a Serious Impact Rating results in a Downslope Public Safety Risk level of “Substantial”. Forestry activity restrictions associated with Substantial Downslope Public Safety Risk are described in OAR 629-623-0400 and OAR 629-623-0450. Details regarding implementation of the Substantial or Intermediate Downslope Public Safety rules are presented in the geotechnical memorandum attached to the documents section of this notification.

It is the landowner’s and operator’s responsibility to know what Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) we are at and to follow the rules associated with that level. To check these levels, call 541-935-2222, or visit our Facebook page at ODF Western Lane.

If you intend to burn slash from your logging operation, you will need to file another notification for slash treatment and then file a smoke management registration with the Western Lane Office in Veneta. Once those are submitted, you will need to call 541-285-8671 to obtain verbal permission from the smoke management team before you burn.
